Washington Nationals
Jayson Werth has been on the Disabled List since June 3rd, when he fouled a fastball off his left foot and suffered a fracture and deep bone bruise. Trea Turner landed on the DL on June 29th when a fastball hit his left wrist and fractured it. According to reports out of San Diego on Sunday, both Werth and Turner, who have been working out at the Washington Nationals’ facilities in West Palm Beach, are on the way to Triple-A, where they’ll begin their respective rehab assignments Monday. Werth, 38, put up a .262/.367/.446 line with five doubles and eight home runs in 196 plate appearances before his injury. Turner, 24, started slow, but by the time he was injured, had a .279/.324/.422 line with Continue to Article

HOUSTON — A subplot to Friday night’s game at Minute Maid Park is one that will likely repeat itself often over the next few years. The A’s and Astros boast two of the better young third basemen in the American League in Matt Chapman and Alex Bregman. Both are under 25, excellent with the glove and sure to face each other plenty as AL West opponents. The difference right now is Bregman is a key piece to a team likely to contend for the World Series. Dallas Keuchel dominated the A’s on the mound Friday, but he got a huge assist from his 23-year-old third baseman. Bregman made several standout defensive plays and drilled an opposite-field homer off Sean Manaea in the Astros’ 3-1 victory. Paying Continue to Article

Washington Nationals
Brian Goodwin was placed on the 10-day disabled list with a left groin strain, joining a long list of Washington Nationals outfielders currently sidelined with injuries. Goodwin was placed on the DL retroactive to Aug. 14. He joins Bryce Harper (hyperextended knee),  Ryan Raburn (trapezius strain), Jayson Werth (foot contusion) and Adam Eaton (torn ACL). Eaton said Wednesday he has not ruled out the possibility of returning this season from his April injury, and has been running and swinging a bat for the past couple weeks. "I'm going to give myself the best chance whatever I can as humanly possibly for my knee," Eaton said. "I have to listen to my knee at the end of the day, my knee is going Continue to Article
