New York Mets
David Wright, who last played for the Mets on May 27, 2016, officially started a rehab assignment with Single-A St. Lucie, batting third as the designated hitter Tuesday night. This is great news for Wright. However, regardless of what happens the next six weeks, if Sandy Alderson has any doubt about Wright's ability to play at a high level in 2018, he has to proceed this winter as if Wright will not be on the roster next year. If Wright is healthy next spring, and Alderson has too many infielders, so bet it. He can cross that bridge when he gets to it. Because, sadly, the fact is, that bridge may never come in to view...David Wright of the Mets during an at-bat against the Nationals in spring Continue to Article

Arizona Diamondbacks
Wilmer Flores seems to have been a Met for a very long time. Since debuting in 2013, he has amassed over 1,500 plate appearances while playing no fewer than 50 games in each of the four infield spots. Along the way, he has collected 54 home runs, 192 RBI, and one dramatic last-minute reprieve from a trade to the Brewers. No wonder it's so easy to forget that he's still just 26 years old. Despite moving through the Mets system on the strength of his bat, Flores didn't get off to a hot start in the majors, putting up a paltry .675 OPS from 2013-15. But over the past two seasons, coinciding with the end of his experimental shortstop run, he has put together a .272/.318/.478 slash line -- not a dominant Continue to Article

David Wright is serving as the DH for High-A St. Lucie on Tuesday night. The 34-year-old Wright has been hitting and throwing in St. Lucie, Mets manager Terry Collins said on Tuesday, adding that there is a scenario where Wright returns to the Mets this season as a viable infielder but also one where he returns and is only available as a pinch-hitter. Wright, who hasn't appeared in a game for the Mets since 2016, recently began baseball activity in Port St. Lucie. "I don't know how many answers he will have or we will have through the end of this season," Mets GM Sandy Alderson said about Wright last week, noting it's possible the Mets look to acquire a full-time third baseman for next season.
