Baltimore Orioles
BALTIMORE -- Adam Jones called it a game the Baltimore Orioles needed to win. The center fielder set the early tone, and the rest of the team followed his lead. Jones hit a pair of home runs, Jonathan Schoop added a three-run shot and Baltimore beat the Oakland Athletics 7-3 on Monday night. The Orioles won for the second time in six games, but they are still in the thick of the wild-card race. "Adam's done that a lot and it never goes unnoticed or unappreciated or assumed, more importantly," Orioles manager Buck Showalter said. "Jon obviously had a big blow there, but can't tell you how hard it is, as hard as Adam plays as long as he plays, and then mid-to-late August you're still able to do Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
There’s nothing quite like sitting down to contemplate the Orioles chances, with the team already having lost two games in a row, knowing that Wade Miley and Ubaldo Jimenez will be starting the next two games. Oh, yes. If momentum is the next day’s starting pitcher, well, it’s no wonder that the Orioles have spent the whole season having problems. We have arrived at a point where it’s time for the Orioles to start winning some games or else stop pretending that they’re in any kind of postseason position. The last series they won concluded on August 2. They haven’t won two games consecutively in their last 12 games and at the moment they have a losing record in August - their fourth consecutive Continue to Article

The Los Angeles Angels have done a wonderful job of turning around a season that just two weeks ago seemed unsalvageable. Pinch-hitter Cameron Maybin singled in the tiebreaking run in the eighth inning, Kole Calhoun and Andrelton Simmons homered and Los Angeles beat the Baltimore Orioles 5-4 Sunday. The Angels have won nine of 11 to gain a tie for the second AL wild card slot and move four games over .500 (64-60) for the first time since April 11. Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
Following Friday’s exciting walkoff win over the Angels, a reporter asked Buck Showalter one of the standard boring reporter questions along the lines of, “How big was this win?” Buck replied that it was nice enough, but they’ve got to win tomorrow and the next day and the next day and so on. As Earl Weaver would say, momentum is your next day’s starting pitcher. And it really won’t mean a whole lot that the Orioles won in such a nice way last night if they don’t win either tonight or tomorrow as well. Preferably, both! But it’s one game at a time, and for tonight they should only worry about tonight. It’ll be Kevin Gausman on the mound for the Orioles. He’s been good in the second half. If that Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
It is Friday night. The Orioles have finally - finally! - again won a game on a Friday night. After trailing for the entire game, the O’s got a rally started in the ninth inning with Anthony Santander’s first career hit and capped it with a walkoff grand slam by Manny Machado, his third home run of the game, to power the Orioles to a 9-7 victory over the Angels. Do you remember what must be done? No, I didn’t need to ask. YOU KNOW WHAT MUST BE DONE. Continue to Article
