San Diego Padres
Jered Weaver, the accomplished right-hander who signed with the Padres in February, on Wednesday announced his retirement following 12 seasons in the majors. Weaver, 34, made his last start, arguably the worst of his career, on May 19. He walked off the mound at Petco Park to boos after allowing seven runs and recording only two outs. He went on the disabled list the next day with hip inflammation. In his lone rehab appearance, a June 22 outing with Triple-A El Paso, he allowed three runs over as many innings. "I've decided to step away from baseball,” Weaver wrote in a statement released by the Padres. “While I've been working hard to get back on the mound, my body just will not allow me to Continue to Article

It’s getting tough, I’m glad we got bodies and quality players.” Baker was asked for an update before Tuesday’s matchup with the LA Angels, but he said not much had changed since he last spoke to reporters. “It’s only been one day,” Baker explained, “I haven’t talked to my trainer about it but I know he can’t — unless he’s found some miracle drug it’s probably the same, because he’s not dressed today, so I haven’t had Continue to Article

When Bryce Harper went down Saturday night during the Nationals' game against the San Francisco Giants, everyone in D.C. stopped breathing for a moment. This was true even for Nats GM Mike Rizzo. "We've all felt it," Rizzo said. "You get that little pit in your stomach and it's the same feeling I had when [Wilson] Ramos went out." The Nats' star right fielder was running out a ground ball to first base when his left leg hit a slippery base, causing his left knee to hyperextend. Harper immediately went down and grabbed his knee in agony. He eventually had to be helped off the field. The team has been plauge with injuires this season, from the bullpen to outfielders. After the initial shock of Continue to Article

Dusty Baker talked after Sunday nights win about the addition of Howie Kendrick, Daniel Murphy and Ryan Zimmermans contributions, and all the injuries the Nats are dealing with this season... Howie Kendrick got all the glory, the on-field celebration, and Gatorade bath.
