The Chicago Cubs used an unusual alignment for Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto, employing four outfielders across the Wrigley Field grass on Monday night. As Votto came to the plate in the top of the fifth inning of Chicago's 15-5 rout of Cincinnati, usual third baseman Kris Bryant moved to left-center field, with left fielder Kyle Schwarber playing near the foul line. CHICAGO -- The Chicago Cubs used an unusual alignment for Cincinnati Reds first baseman Joey Votto, employing four outfielders across the Wrigley Field grass on Monday night. As Votto came to the plate in the top of the fifth inning, usual third baseman Kris Bryant moved to left-center field, with left fielder Kyle Schwarber playing near the foul line. The Cubs started August with a stretch of games against good teams, but now the schedule will even out for the North Siders. Going back to the big three-game series with the Brewers to end July, it's been a lot of baseball against quality teams for the Cubs. The Cubs hosted wildcard-leading Arizona, dropping two of three, and NL East-leading Washington, again dropping two of three. Next up was a trip to San Francisco, which is in last in the NL West. The Cubs were unable to take the series there after winning the first game. This weekend, the Cubs finished the brief road trip with another series with the Diamondbacks. The Mets traded infielder Neil Walker to the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday, the latest veteran dealt by out-of-contention New York as it pivots toward 2018.
