Dusty Baker talked after Sunday nights win about the addition of Howie Kendrick, Daniel Murphy and Ryan Zimmermans contributions, and all the injuries the Nats are dealing with this season... Howie Kendrick got all the glory, the on-field celebration, and Gatorade bath. Kendrick capped off his 2 for 4 game against the San Francisco Giants on Sunday with a walk-off grand slam in extra innings. Continue to Article

Bryce Harper appears to have dodged a major injury bullet. Nationals general manager Mike Rizzo on Sunday announced the star outfielder avoided ligament and tendon damage after suffering a knee injury in Saturday's win over the Giants but will remain out indefinitely. According to reports from Nationals Park this morning, where General Manager Mike Rizzo met with reporters, Bryce Harper suffered a significant bone bruise in his left knee, but no ligament tears or other damage in last night’s game. “The good news is that there’s no ligament or tendon damage, which is pretty remarkable in my mind just seeing the type of injury that he had,” Rizzo said today. “There is a significant bone bruise when he hyperextended the knee, so although we feel like we dodged a bullet a bit here with any long-term ligament and tendon damage, the bone bruise is something of significance, and we’re going to treat him cautiously and hopefully have him back later on this season.” Continue to Article

He said, "No," initially, then after giving it a moment’s thought, the veteran manager offered one suggestion for something the then-19-year-old rookie might think about changing. "I like him just the way he is, to answer your question," Johnson said. "A lot of people around the league tip their hat to that kind of all-in," he continued. But if there was one thing... "I hope he gets to softening his slam into first base," Johnson said, referring to Harper's tendency to stomp hard on the first base bag as he runs down the line. "But other Continue to Article

Washington and San Francisco waited out a three-hour-plus rain delay before starting the series opener in Nationals Park. Rain was still falling when play began, and in a full-on worst-case scenario, Bryce Harper injured his left knee hustling down to first base on a ground ball when his leg slid over the wet first base bag. He appeared to hyperextend his knee, tumbling over the leg after he planted hard past the bag, sending him into an awkward tumble which ended with him landing hard onto his right shoulder. Harper was in obvious pain, and his groans could be heard with a crowd that was stunned silent in the nation’s capital. Team trainer Paul Lessard, Dusty Baker, and the Nationals’ coaches Continue to Article
