Boog Powell made his Oakland Athletics debut a day later than he planned. Powell, acquired from the Seattle Mariners last Sunday for Yonder Alonso, was fighting a cold and experienced an asthma attack he said had him breathing at about 50 percent. The breathing issue was the worst Powell could remember, and he only had a couple of asthma attacks as a child. Continue to Article

If everything seems like it sucks for the Orioles right now, that’s probably because it is - but don’t worry, they’re still “just” two games back of a wild card spot. Two games is only two games, though they also have five teams to pass in order to get there. That’s a lot of teams to pass. One reason why it’s such a bummer to lose a game like last night’s is that Oakland is not a good team. These are supposed to be the gimme games. We know computers hate the Orioles, and national broadcasters hate the Orioles, but do the folks who make power polls/rankings hate the Orioles? This week, they’re surprisingly optimistic. MLB.com (14th; LW: 16th) Alyson Footer at MLB.com lifts the Orioles to 14th, which she has is five slots higher, but I coulda swore she had them at 16th last week... Bleacher Report Power Rankings (14th; LW: 17th) Joel Reuter lifts the Orioles up three slots. Unless the Oakland series goes better than the Angels series, next week is gonna be bowling shoe ugly. CBS Sports (15th; LW: 16th) Matt Synder lifts the O’s one slot. “One of my many mottos is Believe In Buck. I will not stray, either.” reddit’s Power Continue to Article

These days, sabermetrics are part of baseball more than ever and being implemented more and more by the decision makers of the MLB. With this movement, statistics are now out there for anything and everything related to professional baseball. Unsurprisingly, these statistics include the realm of lineup optimization. While it may differ from the old-school consensus, there are common trends when it comes to the research involved with getting the most out of lineups in 2017. I won’t go into too much detail but it’s fairly straight forward for the first few selections. Your priorities are the 1, 2, 4, and 5 spots. While it may sound odd, the third spot is actually not as important despite old-school Continue to Article
