Cleveland Indians
ST. PETRSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Jay Bruce drove in his first two runs for the Cleveland Indians and Mike Clevinger struck out nine in seven innings Saturday night in a 3-0 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays. Bruce, acquired in a trade from the New York Mets on Wednesday night, drove in the first run with a two-out fly ball that dropped for a double between left fielder Corey Dickerson and third baseman Trevor Plouffe in the first inning. After leading off the third with a double, Francisco Lindor scored on Chris Archer's two-out wild pitch to make it 2-0. Bruce drove in another run with a single in the fifth after Jose Ramirez's leadoff double. Clevinger (6-4) won for the first time in four starts since Continue to Article

Cleveland Indians
For fans heavily invested in the White Sox rebuild, an August winning streak is maybe not what they were hoping to see. Mired in a last-place season and 16 games behind the first-place Cleveland Indians in the American League Central standings, the worse the White Sox finish this season, the better their draft pick next summer, which could mean another prized addition to the ongoing rebuild. But, hey, the White Sox are still allowed to have a little late-summer fun, right? After sweeping the AL-best Houston Astros and taking the first game of this weekend’s series with the visiting Kansas City Royals, the South Siders have their second-longest winning streak of the season, a stretch bettered Continue to Article

Cleveland Indians
Mets GM Sandy Alderson is not ruling out the idea of bringing free agent-to-be Jay Bruce back to the Mets after the season. "Right now he is the property of the Cleveland Indians," Alderson said on Thursday. "From our standpoint, we had a great relationship, he was productive in New York, and we'll keep the lines of communication open once its appropriate, as we will with most free agents." The Mets traded outfielder Jay Bruce to the Indians in exchange for pitching prospect Ryder Ryan, the team announced Wednesday night. As part of the deal, Cleveland will pay the rest of the money owed to Bruce this season. FanRag's Jon Heyman reports the Yankees were in talks to acquire the outfielder but Continue to Article

Tampa Bay Rays
As we noted yesterday, as part of “Players Weekend” on August 25-27, teams will wear bright, pullover alternative jerseys which, if they so choose, will feature nicknames on their backs. Some of the nicknames are pretty good. Some are lame. Some players Continue to Article

Cleveland Indians
Neither he nor any of the 34,000 fans in attendance on a beautiful afternoon at Citi Field knew it at the time, but Jay Bruce’s last at-bat as a member of the New York Mets came Wednesday in the seventh inning against the Rangers. By day’s end, so too was Bruce’s brief, 153-game stint in a New York uniform. Bruce had been traded to the Cleveland Indians for a little-known A-Ball pitcher with the wonderful name of Ryder Ryan, who may yet be the more interesting player involved in this trade, though less for anything he may do to help his new team win and more for what he says about the current state of the Mets and their future plans.
