Mets rookie shortstop Amed Rosario went 1-for-3 with two strikeouts Friday in his home debut. In his first at bat, Rosario, 21, struck out on a 96 mph fastball from Yu Darvish , who was making his first start for the Dodgers since being acquired from the Rangers. In his second at bat against Darvish, Rosario hit a hard single through the left side of the infield. He also recorded his first career stolen base. Rosario had 19 steals with Las Vegas this season, and his speed so far has been impressive. "This kid is very bright. He's very sharp," Terry Collins said about Rosario. "And he's got good leadership, talking to Jose [Reyes], [Asdrubal] Cabrera and those guys. They'll help him along the Continue to Article

Yu Darvish fit right in with the Dodgers: He dominated. The prized new pitcher struck out 10 over seven innings of three-hit ball during a brilliant debut for Los Angeles, leading the top team in the majors past the New York Mets 6-0 on Friday night. ''It couldn't have went any better,'' Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said . Continue to Article

Since the award's conception in 1967, four Phillies hurlers have won the NL Cy Young: Two of them are incredibly obvious and two of them are absurdly not. Any fan who's ever stepped foot inside the Citizens Bank Park gift shop could probably guess Steve Carlton (72, 77, 80, 82) and Roy Halladay (2010), arguably the two best Phillies pitchers of the last 50 years, as the first two. But the next two are not Cliff Lee, Cole Hamels, Curt Schilling, Jim Bunning, Rick Wise or even Brad Lidge. They are, instead: John Denny in '83, and Steve "Bedrock" Bedrosian in 1987.  Denny's presence on this esteemed list is surprising but explicable. In his first season with the Phillies after coming over from the Continue to Article

Things you should know about tonight's game... 1) Jacob deGrom allowed three runs on five hits -- including two solo homers -- and three walks while striking out eight in five innings. It was his second consecutive loss following eight straight wins and marked the first time in 10 starts he didn't record an out in the sixth inning. 2) Michael Conforto had two of the Mets' four hits and Amed Rosario collected his first career hit at Citi Field with a single in the fifth. He also swiped second for his first stolen base. deGrom singled in the third and became the first Mets pitcher to steal a base since Oliver Perez on May 11, 2008. 3) Yu Darvish allowed three singles, a walk and struck out 10 over Continue to Article

The departures of Addison Reed and Lucas Duda, and the arrival of Amed Rosario, signaled the end of the 2017 Mets. The team is now playing for next year -- preparing for a significant team turnover and hopefully beginning to answer some important questions.  What will the infield look like in 2018? Part of that has been settled. Rosario is, deservedly, beginning his tenure as the Mets' starting shortstop, and Dominic Smith's inauguration as first baseman is only a matter of time. Duda's trade indicated that any doubt as to Smith's readiness is gone and even slow starts to their respective MLB careers will not take him or Rosario out of the 2018 Opening Day lineup. As settled as shortstop and Continue to Article
