Baltimore Orioles
BALTIMORE — Craig Gentry singled home the winning run with two outs in the ninth inning, and the Baltimore Orioles cooled off the Kansas City Royals with a 2-1 victory Monday night. Manny Machado had two hits and scored a run for the Orioles, who have won three straight. Caleb Joseph got Baltimore going in the ninth with a one-out single off Joakim Soria (4-3). Ruben Tejada singled with two outs before Gentry hit a grounder up the middle that sent Joseph home from second base without a throw. It was the second loss in 12 games for the Royals, who managed only five hits off three Baltimore pitchers. Zach Britton (1-0) - the subject of many rumors before the non-waiver trade deadline ended on Monday Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
Sitting in fourth place in the AL East with a losing record, the Baltimore Orioles refused to abandon their chances of making a playoff run. The Orioles handled the non-waiver trade deadline as buyers, adding two pitchers and infielder Tim Beckham in hopes of salvaging a season that has thus far been a struggle. Executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette beat the deadline Monday by obtaining Beckham, who bolsters an injury-riddled infield that's currently without shortstop J.J. Hardy and utility player Ryan Flaherty. Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
After months of hearing about how the Orioles would have to be sellers, they turned into slight buyers at the trade deadline. Right at the deadline on Monday afternoon, they snuck in a deal that brings former #1 overall pick Tim Beckham to the Orioles in exchange for minor league pitcher Tobias Myers. Beckham, 27, was picked first in the 2008 draft by the Rays. He has never really performed at the big league level to live up to that kind of draft hype. It took him until the 2015 season, when he was 25, to really break into the big leagues full time, and in three seasons since then, he’s batted a combined .245/.299/.421 in a bit more than a regular season’s worth of plate appearances. Beckham Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles came into the day of the trade deadline with every report saying that they weren’t going to deal closer Zach Britton anywhere unless some other team met their high price. In the end, no one met their price. Britton remains an Oriole, as does anybody else you might have imagined going on the trade block when the Orioles hit the doldrums in June. There were believed to be three big suitors for Britton: The Dodgers, the Astros, and the Indians. All three of these teams acquired relielvers on Monday afternoon. Britton, however, stayed put. Cleveland picked up Joe Smith from the Blue Jays. The Astros landed Francisco Liriano, also from the Blue Jays. He’s expected to be used in relief Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
There’s nothing like an impending deadline to make everyone involved in a situation get serious about it. You have probably experienced this yourself at some point in your school or work life. So it is too for baseball teams, including the Orioles, as the 2017 non-waiver trade deadline approaches. It’s put up or shut up time for deals, including potential ones for the O’s closer, Zach Britton. Depending on which reporter’s rumor you read at which time, you might come away with completely different pictures about what’s going to happen with Britton, or not happen, some time over the next couple of hours. Teams are either in or out, thinking Britton will or won’t be traded, all shifting depending Continue to Article
