San Francisco Giants and Los Angeles Dodgers Thread

San Francisco Giants
LOS ANGELES — There’s an oft-used baseball saying when a rookie pitcher comes up and dominates a team: “Wait until they see him a few times.” The Dodgers have seen Ty Blach five times over the past two seasons. They still haven’t figured him out.  Blach escaped early trouble Saturday afternoon at Dodger Stadium and got through seven solid innings. The Giants lost 2-1, but this one wasn’t on the starting pitcher. For a team grasping for positives, Blach has provided plenty, and as the Giants plan for the future they can take some comfort in the fact that Blach has shown the ability to adjust and continue to keep tough lineups off-balance.  “If you’re a pitcher that can command the ball, which Continue to Article

Los Angeles Dodgers
LOS ANGELES — The Giants put together a long rally in the top of the seventh inning Friday, scoring three runs to take a 4-2 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Matt Moore walked the leadoff hitter on four pitches.  “You don’t deserve anything really that good after something like that,” Moore said. “That’s piss poor.” Nothing good came after the walk, as Moore expected. That man, Austin Barnes, would come around to score. Three more Dodgers would, too. It added up to a 6-4 win for the Dodgers. For the best team in the National League, this was a familiar feeling. For the most disappointing team in baseball, the same was true.  The Giants have played so well against the Dodgers this season, but Continue to Article

Los Angeles Dodgers
Magic Johnson’s guarantee could put even more pressure on the Dodgers to win this season. As if the Los Angeles Dodgers weren’t feeling enough pressure already to end their 29-year World Series drought, co-owner Magic Johnson managed to crank things a little tighter this week. Appearing at Clayton Kershaw’s annual Ping Pong 4 Purpose event at Dodger Stadium on Thursday, the NBA Hall of Famer called his shot. Continue to Article

ST. LOUIS - On the surface, it made complete sense. Rookie Luke Weaver was making the start last night for the St. Louis Cardinals, so why not give Yadier Molina a break and have Carson Kelly–who caught Weaver all season in Memphis, get the start behind the plate. Apparently, Yadier Molina took some exception to how the news was relayed in the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, where Mitchell Forde wrote that Matheny implied the catcher was tired. Posting on his Instagram account, Molina made it very clear that is not the case. The interpretation that Molina could use the day off was not incorrect, but what was left out of the Post Dispatch article was the continuation of Matheny’s comments in which he Continue to Article

Baseball, as we so often note around here, is unpredictable. Especially when it comes to the playoffs. You can be the best team in the land for six months but a few bad days can end your season once October hits. In 2001 the Seattle Mariners won 116 games in the regular season but lost the ALCS to the Yankees, four games to one. In 1906 the Cubs won 116 games in a 152-game season and lost the World Series. In 1954 the Indians won 111 games in a 154-game season and lost the World Series. In 1931 the Philadelphia A’s won 107 games and lost the World Series. More recently, with the advent of expanded playoffs, the chances for the team with the best record to win the World Series have been pretty Continue to Article
