The second half of the MLB season is underway and rumors are flying about deals that could be made days before Monday's non-waiver trade deadline. • The Royals acquired left fielder Melky Cabrera and cash considerations from the White Sox in exchange for right-handed pitcher A.J. Puckett and left-handed pitcher Andre Davis. • The Yankees acquired left-handed pitcher Jaime Garcia and cash considerations from the Twins in exchange for left-handed pitcher Dietrich Enns and right-handed pitcher Zack Littell. Rick Renteria didn’t have a problem with Derek Holland’s comments after Friday’s game. The White Sox southpaw was critical of home plate umpire Bill Welke in a particular incident that happened during Friday night’s 9-3 loss to the Cleveland Indians. Holland called Welke “unprofessional” and felt he was “very disrespected” after Holland flinched during a called ball, which he thought was a strike, in the top of the fourth inning. Adrian Beltre needs one more hit for the 3,000th of his career. Continue to Article

The Indians hopes of getting back to the World Series, and one win further than they did last season, ride on the same arms they did one year ago. Corey Kluber drives the rotation, but, as was proven last fall, he can’t do it alone. The Cubs may not have ended their 108-year drought had Carlos Carrasco and Danny Salazar been healthy last October. Continue to Article

Something to consider when evaluating Tim Andersons rough 2017 season  Jose Abreu was similarly in a bad way one year ago. Finally clear of his own personal strife, the veteran first baseman has put together a fantastic campaign for the White Sox, well above his performance of a year ago when his mind was occupied with more than balls and strikes. Abreu belted two home runs on Thursday night and currently is hitting .297/.352/.521 with 18 homers, 63 RBIs and a wRC+ of 130. Continue to Article
