Chicago Cubs
After watching a 5 1/2-game lead in the National League Central disappear during a disastrous 10-game road trip, the Milwaukee Brewers wanted to make a statement this weekend against the front-running Chicago Cubs at Miller Park. "We're in second place, they're in first place," Brewers third baseman Travis Shaw said. Milwaukee got off to a good start Friday night, emerging from a pitcher's duel to take Game 1 of the three-game set, but now look to keep that momentum going and move back into the top spot Saturday night when right-hander Junior Guerra (1-4, 5.22) takes on Kyle Hendricks (4-3, 3.95). MILWAUKEE Its nice that the Cubs like their dugout vibe again except when John Lackey bumps into Anthony Rizzo and Jose Quintana comes with three additional years of club control and Jake Arrieta says: We expect to remain in first place. The Cubs experienced a playoff-like environment in late July during Friday nights 2-1 loss in front of a sellout crowd at Miller Park. Every year is different, the Cubs kept saying during all their stops and starts in the first half, and these next 60 games should feel like a real pennant race, not the cruise-control settings from last season. No doubt, the Cubs caught the sell-mode White Sox at the right time during the final days leading up to the July 31 trade deadline. Im guilty of that kind of a narrative or a dialogue also, because I was really eager to watch him play a full season of Major League Baseball. At this point, the Cubs (54-47) would love to see what kind of wrecking ball Schwarber could be for a half-season. Continue to Article
