A look at what's happening all around the majors today: --- GETTIN' CLOSE Adrian Beltre has 2,998 career hits and is swinging a hot bat for Texas. He's 9 for 14 through four games of a nine-game homestand. The 38-year-old Rangers third baseman is on the Continue to Article

Boston Red Sox
BOSTON — It's not on them. It's on him.  Dustin Pedroia’s pre-game media session Friday was an inauguration speech for positions he never really wanted: Defuser. Spokesman. He needs to embrace those now, for the good of his teammates and a clubhouse he has declared his. He seems on his way. Let’s get one caveat out of the way before we explore the second baseman’s soapbox: little else matters if the Red Sox don’t start hitting.  Their lack of power is sapping the enjoyment out of watching games and has to be draining to their pitchers, who are being hung out to dry near daily. It’s the looped soundtrack of a slow slide into second place, or worse. But let’s assume, though, the Sox will start Continue to Article

Boston Red Sox
BOSTON — Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski on Friday revealed that owners John Henry and Tom Werner have apologized to Dennis Eckerlsey for the David Price-led confrontation aboard a team flight.  That makes four top brass who have offered an apology to Eckersley on behalf of Price: Henry, Werner, club president Sam Kennedy and Dombrowski himself. “The highest ranking officials in the Boston Red Sox organization, we've all reached out to him,” Dombrowski said. “So, that's up to individuals and what they decide they want to do on that.” Price and Dustin Pedroia have spoken one-on-one about the matter, and Pedroia told the media Friday afternoon he expects Price will speak with Continue to Article

Kansas City Royals
MLB Network’s Jon Morosi reports that the Royals still appear interested in Cardinals’ right-hander Lance Lynn, though any potential deal might be on hold for the time being. Lynn is rapidly approaching free agency at the end of the 2017 season and has already attracted a number of serious suitors, including the Astros, Yankees and Rockies. While he likely won’t command the kind of return that, say, Sonny Gray will, he’s considered one of the top starters left on the market. The ball is still firmly in the Cardinals’ court, however, and ESPN’s Buster Olney adds that they have yet to announce whether they intend to move the veteran righty at all. Lynn, 30, is serving his sixth season with the Continue to Article

Boston Red Sox
BOSTON — Red Sox president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski is trying to play it cool again when it comes to potential trade targets. He does this, sometimes. He’ll occasionally say he’s not going to tip his hand, even though the team’s area of needs are almost always obvious. Other times he’ll come out and say where he’d like to upgrade, as he did in the days leading up to a trade for infielder Eduardo Nunez. He kind of did both on Friday. After David Price went to the disabled list Friday, Dombrowski downplayed the potential need for a starter. “No, not really,” Dombrowski said. “Like I’ve said all along, we’re really open to getting better however we can. We feel comfortable. Of course, Continue to Article
