Cleveland Indians
The Houston Astros might be among the more active teams ahead of Monday's trade deadline. No first-place team in baseball has a more comfortable lead than Houston, who are ahead of the Seattle Mariners by 17 games, but the Astros could probably use another starter to strengthen their chances in October. After 100 games, the Astros are a respectable No. 7 in earned-run average (3.98), but bolstering the rotation could be crucial in the final two months of the regular season and into the postseason as starters have battled inconsistency and injuries. Edwin Encarnacion hit a grand slam in the 11th inning as the Cleveland Indians, who wasted a seven-run lead, beat the Los Angeles Angels 11-7 on Tuesday night for their fifth straight win. There's probably only one of those. So who should it be? Bud Shaw and I agreed on a name here, and it's one that the Indians should be able to get and one that would slide right into an obvious position. He's also a guy other contenders are obviously looking at.  The closer we get to the deadline, the more obvious this guy may become. But that doesn't mean the Indians will get him. The Kansas City Royals desperately need to rebuild. The prospects who came up and helped the team win a World Series title are grown up now, and set to depart once their contracts expire at the end of the season. With the Royals currently one game under .500, it seems like the perfect time to start selling off assets. Continue to Article
