Washington Nationals
When he spoke to reporters after the Washington Nationals’ series finale with the D-backs in Arizona this weekend, Nats’ skipper Dusty Baker said that Stephen Strasburg, who was lifted from the game with achiness/stiffness in his forearm, would see team doctors when the Nationals got back home to the nation’s capital. “He’s had a little stiffness, really couldn’t get loose even though he was throwing the ball well,” Baker explained, “so we’ll analyze it when we get back home, after he sees our doctors, and hopefully we’ll have an answer on Tuesday.” Asked if the Nationals had any tests (an MRI?) scheduled, Baker said no... a couple times. “No, no, no, no, no, he’s just got to see the doctors. Milwaukee Brewers
With a chance to sweep the four-game set in Great American Ball Park, the Washington Nationals jumped on Cincinnati starter Scott Feldman early, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning in what ended up a 6-1 win over the Reds. The fourth straight win to start the second half gave the Nats a 10.5-game lead in the NL East. Dusty Baker talked after the series finale about taking four in a row from the Reds, and winning a day game, a focus for the veteran skipper this season. “We’re inching towards at least .500 on day games and we increased our road record,” Baker said, “... and also — not only getaway days, but we’ve been flirting with sweeps quite a few times but just don’t complete that Continue to Article

Milwaukee Brewers
The Brewers were rumored last week to have been “aggressive” in talks for Tigers reliever Justin Wilson. ESPN’s Jerry Crasnick reports, however, that the talks are a bit more wide-ranging than that. Crasnick says that the two clubs are also discussing Tigers second baseman Ian Kinsler, potentially in a package deal with Wilson. Crasnick says that the Brewers “would love to have Kinsler,” but their main focus at the moment is pitching help. Of course, the Brewers current second baseman — Jonathan Villar — is hitting a meager .223/.285/.348 in 334 plate appearances. Kinsler is having a down season for him — .237/.331/.400 — but he’s better than that and, of course, would represent an improvement. Continue to Article

Nick Williams is sticking to his same, aggressive approach at the plate, no matter how pitchers are pitching to him. Williams homered and had three more RBIs, Jerad Eickhoff pitched six strong innings and Howie Kendrick continued to increase his trade value with two hits and two RBIs as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Milwaukee Brewers 6-3 on Sunday. Williams has shined since his call-up on June 30. Continue to Article

Washington Nationals
In his latest roundup of notes from around the NL on Thursday, FanRag’s Jon Heyman wrote that the Nationals were concerned about injured outfielder Michael A. Taylor’s oblique, which has kept him out of action since July 6th, though he originally tweaked it earlier than that. “There’s concern about Michael Taylor (oblique), so they could look at the outfield, too,” Heyman wrote in discussing where Washington could look for help at the non-waiver trade deadline. “Jayson Werth is also on the DL. Though, rookie Brian Goodwin has played well.” Dusty Baker told reporters earlier this week that there wasn’t a clear timetable for Taylor’s return. “Not sure,” Baker said when asked when Taylor might get Continue to Article
