Baltimore Orioles
Norfolk Tides 6, Pawtucket (Red Sox) 4 The Tides trailed by two runs heading into the ninth inning but then they loaded the bases and displaced big league slugger Pedro Alvarez socked a grand slam to put them ahead. It was Alvarez’s 21st homer of the season for Norfolk. He was 3-5 for the game. Catcher Chance Sisco was 1-4 and also drew a walk in the contest. The PawSox did not challenge him on the basepaths at any point. You know how every time an Orioles starter stinks and you look down at the minor leagues and nobody is distinguishing himself even a tiny bit? Chris Lee had one of those outings in this game: Four runs, three earned in just 4.1 innings. That’s not getting you to the big leagues, Continue to Article

Trainers rushed out onto the field and applied towels to Moran’s face, which began to bleed. Marwin Gonzalez took over the 'at-bat' and hit a three-run homer as the Astros went on to win 8-4. With the pitch getting in deep on Moran’s hands, the contact only served to redirect the baseball into his face where it caught him near the left eye and cheek area. Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
Prior to Saturday’s game against the Astros, Orioles GM Dan Duquette faced the music in a Q&A session with season ticket holders. He insisted, perhaps believing it and perhaps not, that the O’s are just better starting pitching away from being contenders. Hours later, the Orioles lost a game to the Astros, 8-4, that revealed how ridiculous of a statement this was to make. Duquette certainly wasn’t wrong that the Orioles need better starting pitching. Chris Tillman did a good job of showing that in tonight’s game. Where this better pitching is supposed to come from was left a bit vague; are the Orioles going to trade for someone who’s actually better? Are the existing guys going to improve? Even Continue to Article
