Seattle Mariners
Caption Close The Seattle Mariners bid adieu to one of their top minor-league prospects by shipping outfielder Tyler O'Neill to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for young left-handed starter Marco Gonzales. The 25-year-old Gonzales was the Cardinals' first-round pick out of Gonzaga in 2013. He's spent most of the 2017 in Triple-A Memphis, posting a 6-4 mark with a 2.90 ERA in 11 starts this season. His lone major league start this year was forgettable, as he gave up five earned runs in 3 1/3 innings in a loss to the Brewers on June 13. The Fort Collins, Colorado, native was named the Cardinals' minor league pitcher of the year in 2014. He was named the 50th-best prospect in baseball ahead Continue to Article

Change is coming to the Mariners’ starting rotation. On a busy Thursday that already featured the acquisition of reliever David Phelps in a trade with the Marlins, Seattle moved right-hander Sam Gaviglio out of the No. 5 starting spot. Gaviglio was optioned to Class AAA Tacoma, meaning the Mariners will need a starting pitcher for Sunday’s series finale against the Yankees. Right-hander Max Povse has been recalled from Tacoma to take Gaviglio’s spot on the roster and supplement the bullpen. Phelps isn’t expected to join the Mariners until Friday, meaning another roster move will be coming. Gaviglio has struggled in his last two starts, pitching a total of 10 2/3 innings and allowing 12 runs on Continue to Article

MIAMI -- The Miami Marlins' highly touted bullpen has been a bust, and so the dismantling began Thursday. A seller once again as the trade deadline approaches, Miami sent right-hander David Phelps to the Seattle Mariners for four prospects, including highly regarded outfielder Brayan Hernandez. Also acquired by the Marlins to shore up their weak farm system were right-handed pitching prospects Pablo Lopez, Brandon Miller and Lukas Schiraldi. Phelps is 2-4 with a 3.45 ERA in 44 games and 47 innings this season, all in relief. The bullpen was expected to be a strength, but it faltered and the Marlins appear destined to miss the playoffs for the 14th year in a row, the longest such drought in the Continue to Article

New York Yankees
The Yankees added RH relievers David Robertson and Tommy Kahnle in Tuesday night's trade with the White Sox, adding them to Dellin Betances and Aroldis Chapman to seemingly form a powerful back end of the bullpen. But Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports thinks looking to trade Betances in order to acquire a starting pitcher under team control beyond this season is something the Yankees should consider. "Betances is under control for the same amount of time that Andrew Miller was a year ago - this season, plus two more. And actually, he's more affordable than Miller was," Rosenthal writes. "Maybe it's all talk, but the Yankees are adamant that they do not want to trade their top prospects, the ones who Continue to Article

New York Yankees
Aaron Judge met all expectations in his Target Field debut on Monday, blasting one pitch into the third deck in left-center field, and smacking another far over the wall in right-center. So much for batting practice. During the game, however, a player nine inches shorter and 100 pounds lighter had a far greater impact than the league’s superstar rookie. Pinch hitter Eduardo Escobar, engaged in his fourth annual tug-of-war for playing time, turned on a changeup, lined it into left field, and delivered the go-ahead run in the Twins’ 4-2 victory over the Yankees. “His production’s been good, given the time he gets to play,” said Twins manager Paul Molitor, who lately has juggled three different Continue to Article
