The Orioles have really done it over the past couple of days. That is, they have won a couple of games and it's just enough to start to trick you into wondering if things are getting better, even though you really know better than to believe such a thing after the starting pitching we've seen this season. Signed to a minor league deal after he was designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles and elected for free agency, Edwin Jackson reported to the Washington Nationals’ Triple-A affiliate in June. Over 20 1⁄3 innings with the Syracuse Chiefs, the 33-year-old righty was (2-0) with a 0.44 ERA (1 ER), 10 walks, 22 Ks, and a .130 BAA, before the Nationals decided to call the veteran starter up to face the Los Angeles Angels tonight in the series opener in Anaheim. Jackson is taking Joe Ross’s spot in the rotation after the right-hander injured his elbow and is headed for Tommy John surgery.
