Texas Rangers and Baltimore Orioles Thread

Baltimore Orioles
All of a sudden, the Baltimore Orioles' starting rotation is pitching magnificently. The question is: Has this struggling staff finally found its groove, or is it because the opposition is the Texas Rangers? Kevin Gausman pitched six innings of four-hit ball, Adam Jones homered and scored three runs and Baltimore beat the faltering Rangers 10-2 on Wednesday night. Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
The Orioles have really done it over the past couple of days. That is, they have won a couple of games and it's just enough to start to trick you into wondering if things are getting better, even though you really know better than to believe such a thing after the starting pitching we've seen this season. Yet back-to-back quality starts and suddenly all of the stories about how the Orioles are going to be sellers at the trade deadline are like, "Well, but, hmm..." And that's just two good starts in a row for the first time in a month and a half! What if Kevin Gausman turns in the rotation's third consecutive quality start against the Rangers tonight? Maybe the Rangers just aren't that good right Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
Rumors continue to surface over what the Orioles will decide to do over the next two weeks, and there’s little certainty surrounding what the team truly wants to do as the MLB trade deadline approaches. Just yesterday, reports emerged that the Colorado Rockies were interested in Dylan Bundy and Kevin Gausman, sparking plenty of conversation regarding whether or not Dan Duquette is in a position to deal away the only two arms in the current rotation with valuable long-term projections. It’s a strange time in Birdland, one that still has young prospects playing on a nightly basis down on the farm. And should the team entertain offers for either Bundy or Gausman, a key question remains — is there Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
Signed to a minor league deal after he was designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles and elected for free agency, Edwin Jackson reported to the Washington Nationals’ Triple-A affiliate in June. Over 20 1⁄3 innings with the Syracuse Chiefs, the 33-year-old righty was (2-0) with a 0.44 ERA (1 ER), 10 walks, 22 Ks, and a .130 BAA, before the Nationals decided to call the veteran starter up to face the Los Angeles Angels tonight in the series opener in Anaheim. Jackson is taking Joe Ross’s spot in the rotation after the right-hander injured his elbow and is headed for Tommy John surgery. GM Mike Rizzo acknowledged on Monday morning, however, that the one-time Nats’ starter (2012) would get an opportunity tonight. Continue to Article

Baltimore Orioles
There are not going to be very many times where a sports team's ownership is in the news where that turns out to be a good thing for the franchise. Orioles fans are familiar with this from decades past when the idea of "meddling Peter Angelos" was a regular topic. If recent news is any indication, Angelos is at it again. The most pressing concern is how Angelos's name keeps coming up in stories about whether the Orioles will be sellers at the trade deadline and if so, how much. Both national and local writers have spent time pointing out that anything "significant," including possible trades of relievers Zach Britton and Brad Brach, will require the approval of Angelos. Less of immediate interest Continue to Article
