Signed to a minor league deal after he was designated for assignment by the Baltimore Orioles and elected for free agency, Edwin Jackson reported to the Washington Nationals’ Triple-A affiliate in June. Over 20 1⁄3 innings with the Syracuse Chiefs, the 33-year-old righty was (2-0) with a 0.44 ERA (1 ER), 10 walks, 22 Ks, and a .130 BAA, before the Nationals decided to call the veteran starter up to face the Los Angeles Angels tonight in the series opener in Anaheim. Jackson is taking Joe Ross’s spot in the rotation after the right-hander injured his elbow and is headed for Tommy John surgery. There are not going to be very many times where a sports team's ownership is in the news where that turns out to be a good thing for the franchise. Orioles fans are familiar with this from decades past when the idea of "meddling Peter Angelos" was a regular topic. If recent news is any indication, Angelos is at it again. The most pressing concern is how Angelos's name keeps coming up in stories about whether the Orioles will be sellers at the trade deadline and if so, how much. The Baltimore Orioles went right down to the deadline - and then some - to secure highly touted draft pick Cameron Bishop. Bishop, a 6-foot-4 lefty out of the University of California-Irvine, missed his entire junior season with a strained oblique. Baltimore selected the 21-year-old in the 26th round of the draft.
