Chicago Cubs
The Cubs have pushed back Jose Quintana and he will not make a start against his former team in the Crosstown series next week. Quintana was originally slated to pitch Thursday at Guaranteed Rate Field against the White Sox, but the Cubs have bumped him back a day. He will now go Sunday night against the St. Louis Cardinals at Wrigley Field, which means he will miss all of the four-game series against the South Siders. Joe Maddon explained his thought process before Tuesday night's game, wanting to keep Jon Lester — who is starting Saturday — on regular rest and lining up Quintana against the Cubs' division foes — Cardinals and Milwaukee Brewers next weekend — in games that hold more weight in Continue to Article

Atlanta Braves
Bartolo Colón made his debut with the Minnesota Twins on Tuesday night, and while the start did not end well, it did get off to an impressive start against Aaron Judge and the New York Yankees. The 44-year-old Colón was released earlier this month by the Atlanta Braves and picked up by the Twins, the tenth team the pitcher affectionately known as "Big Sexy" has started a game for. In the first inning, Colón went 1-2-3 against the Yankees and the highlight was this nasty two-seam fastball. Continue to Article

Atlanta Braves
John Lackey displayed his experience and wisdom before and after helping lead the Chicago Cubs past the Atlanta Braves 5-1 for their fifth consecutive victory. Lackey, 38, was careful not to start warming up Tuesday night before Braves left-hander Sean Newcomb began his pre-game tosses, as the infield tarp was pulled on and off three times during a two-hour, 30-minute rain delay before the start of the game. And after Lackey threw five innings of one-run ball in his first start since coming off the 10-day disabled list, he doused any speculation that he could have been pitching effectively to keep his spot in the Cubs’ rotation with the acquisition of Jose Quintana and imminent return of Kyle Continue to Article

Atlanta Braves
Good morning. This is LEADOFF, the early buzz in Atlanta sports. With SunTrust Park experiencing its 11th rain-delayed game Tuesday night, you might be thinking: Tell me again why the Braves didn’t put a retractable roof on their new stadium. Glad you asked, if you did. The Braves considered putting a retractable roof on SunTrust Park, but “I think it was a relatively brief conversation,” Derek Schiller, the team’s president of business, told me during the ballpark’s construction last year. “Early on, we discussed a facility that might include a roof, but there are a variety of reasons we didn’t go down that path,” Schiller said at the time. “Some of it is cost. It is cost-prohibitive. But at Continue to Article

Atlanta Braves
John Lackey didn't consider this a final test to see if he can hold his spot in the Chicago Cubs' rotation. ''No, that ship has sailed,'' Lackey said with a smile. Willson Contreras hit a three-run homer, Lackey earned his first win in a month and the Cubs won their fifth straight game with a 5-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night.
