SAN DIEGO — Madison Bumgarner is a perfectionist on the mound, but even he likely didn’t scrip a return like the one he had around 6 p.m. Saturday night.  Bumgarner struck out the side in his first MLB inning since April 19, showing right from the jump that he’s the same guy. The rest of his night included some rockier moments, and the Giants ultimately lost, but they at least could walk away knowing that their ace is fine. The team? Not so much. But Bumgarner is fine.  “It’s good to have him back,” manager Bruce Bochy said. “Overall, I thought he did a real nice job.” Bochy did not attend any of Bumgarner’s rehab starts, although he watched video. In that sense, seeing Bumgarner stand a few Continue to Article

A worn-down Terry Collins candidly disclosed at the end of the last season that 2017 might be his final year managing if he felt health-wise at the end of this season like he did at that time. And given Collins is in the final year of his contract and the Mets are 39-47 at the All-Star break, it's hardly a leap to suggest the Mets will be changing managers during the offseason, while portraying it as Collins' decision. Assuming that materializes, who are the logical candidates for Sandy Alderson to turn to as manager?  Bob Geren, Dodgers bench coach A former manager of the Athletics, Geren was well-regarded by the Mets front office while serving as bench coach in Queens. He opted to take the Continue to Article

The Pablo Sandoval era is over in Boston. Sandoval was informed Friday that he has been designated for assignment, the Red Sox announced. The move effectively terminates one of the worst free-agent signings in franchise history, although the Red Sox still owe the 30-year-old third baseman approximately $49 million through the end of the 2019 season. Boston has 10 days to either trade or release Sandoval. "I thank the Boston Red Sox for the opportunity and I remain positive that with the love and support of my family I will continue on with my career," Sandoval told ESPN's Marly Rivera. Sandoval said he is currently in Miami, where he will remain training and working out, preparing for the next Continue to Article
