Pittsburgh Pirates
While the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates wouldn't dare predict the outcome Sunday when the teams play in the finale of their weekend series at PNC Park, there is one certainty. St. Louis (44-46) won't be overtaken for third place in the National League Central by Pittsburgh (43-48). It might not “count” the way it once did. The teams in Tuesday’s All-Star Game at Marlins Park won’t be playing for home-field advantage in the World Series. But players say the All-Star Game still matters. “We’re going to still want to win,” said Washington Nationals first baseman Ryan Zimmerman. Barry Bonds is home again, this time for good. Baseball's home run king was honored by the San Francisco Giants with the unveiling of a plaque bearing his likeness on the team's Wall of Fame at AT&T Park during a pre-game ceremony Saturday. The 52-year-old former slugger, who hit 762 home runs during a 22-year career with the Giants and Pittsburgh Pirates, waved to the estimated crowd of nearly 1,000 fans, many wearing Bonds' No. 25 jerseys, who lined up behind barricades not far from the player's entrance at AT&T Park to witness the 40-minute ceremony honoring the seven-time NL MVP. Veteran Cpl. Clarence Adelhardt threw out a memorable first pitch at Busch Stadium with 45 relatives in attendance. The St. Louis Cardinals and Fox Sports Midwest have made it a yearly tradition to honor veterans with Military Appreciation Night at Busch Stadium and their This One’s For You telecast. This year was no different, and it provided several memorable moments for veterans who served and their families. Continue to Article
