San Diego Padres
SAN FRANCISCO — During a ceremony Saturday to unveil a Barry Bonds plaque on the organization’s Wall of Fame, broadcaster Duane Kuiper read off a list of pitchers who got the best of Bonds. It was a short list.  Bonds did damage against just about everybody, just about everywhere. No team felt his wrath like the Padres, though, and Bruce Bochy was the manager during much of that reign of terror. Bonds hit 87 homers in 868 at-bats against San Diego, 22 more than he hit against any other team. The Padres intentionally walked him 77 times, which is second to the Dodgers, but the rate is not as out of whack as the home run rate. Bochy explained why on Saturday.  “There were probably times I should Continue to Article

Aaron Nola’s 0-2 fastball to Austin Hedges was on the outside corner. Not a terrible pitch, but not the sort of perfection required of a Phillies starting pitcher, either. Philadelphia Phillies
Phillies manager Pete Mackanin came out of Friday's three-hour meeting with general manager Matt Klentak and other top front-office officials believing the club could have a new look in the coming weeks.  Does that mean a significant influx of young prospects for baseball's worst team? Sounds that way. "I'm hoping we are going to see them in the second half, sooner than later," Mackanin said. "We'll see what happens, especially at the (July 31) trading deadline. If we make a couple, three trades, it might change the whole complexion of the team." It's no secret that the Phillies’ front office is trying to move veterans Jeremy Hellickson, Pat Neshek, Howie Kendrick, Joaquin Benoit and Daniel Nava. Continue to Article

Philadelphia Phillies
Right-handed pitcher Sixto Sanchez and second baseman Scott Kingery join prospect-list staples J.P. Crawford (No. 20) and Jorge Alfaro (No. 34). Nationally, baseball people have taken notice of Sanchez, an 18-year-old flamethrower at Class A Lakewood. Sanchez, who turns 19 on July 29, has a 3.04 ERA and 0.85 WHIP in 10 starts this season.
