Cleveland Indians
CLEVELAND– Indians manager Terry Francona underwent a heart procedure on Thursday. The team said doctors at the Cleveland Clinic performed a catheter ablation to address an irregular heartbeat, which was detected by Francona’s heart monitor. “The Cleveland Indians organization would like to express sincere gratitude to the entire staff of professionals at the Cleveland Clinic for their care and treatment of Terry,” the ball club said in a statement on Friday. The Tribe skipper is expected to make a full recovery and be released from the hospital in the next day or two, according to the Indians. He will be back managing the Tribe on July 14. Cleveland Indians
This just may be my personal experience, but sometimes Twitter is not a nice place. There are far too many awful, angry and mean-spirited tweets. For example, the Cleveland Indians, who lead the American League Central by just one game over the Royals, tweeted this on Thursday: A fan with the Twitter handle “Tacoboing” apparently is not happy with the Indians, so he tweeted this (and a warning, there is bad language): This fan sounds like he has had it with the Indians and would never like to go to another game, right? Sanchez pitched six strong innings, and Dixon Machado hit his first career home run to lift the Detroit Tigers to a 6-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday. "It's been a hard year for him, the way it's gone on the baseball field," Tigers manager Brad Ausmus said. Continue to Article

Detroit Tigers
DETROIT (AP) - Anibal Sanchez pitched six strong innings, and Dixon Machado hit his first career home run to lift the Detroit Tigers to a 6-2 victory over the San Francisco Giants on Thursday. Sanchez (1-0) earned his first victory since Aug. 23, allowing two runs and five hits with eight strikeouts and no walks. Sanchez was pitching so poorly this season that he was sent down to Triple-A Toledo, but the 33-year-old right-hander has posted a 3.09 ERA in four starts since returning from the minors. Machado's first home run came in the 146th at-bat of his career. The 25-year-old infielder hit a two-run shot in the second that put the Tigers up 4-0. Chris Stratton (0-2) allowed five runs and six Continue to Article

Cleveland Indians
Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona missed a second straight game on Wednesday as he remained hospitalized for tests aimed at diagnosing the cause of dizzy spells. It was unclear if the 58-year-old would be able to serve as American League manager in the Major League Baseball All-Star Game next Tuesday in Miami. Francona has been wearing a heart monitor after dizzy spells he experienced on June 13 and again on June 26 caused concern. Continue to Article
