Minnesota Twins
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Parker Bridwell pitched six scoreless innings, Kole Calhoun hit his 12th home run of the season and the Los Angeles Angels avoided a road sweep with a 2-1 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday night. Bridwell (3-1) was strong throughout, out-dueling Twins All-Star Ervin Santana while scattering four hits and stranding seven on base. Cameron Maybin completed a double steal in the sixth, stealing home as Calhoun took second and giving the Angels a two-run cushion that helped end their three-game losing streak. Santana (10-6) went nine innings and allowed two runs and seven hits. But Brian Dozier’s RBI single in the seventh was all the Twins could muster against Los Angeles. Continue to Article

In an effort to continue giving themselves a chance to win this season, but also work on improving the roster for next season, I wonder if the Mets will consider acquiring a pending free agent, such as Rangers C Jonathan Lucroy or Pirates OF Andrew McCutchen. I realize this reads counterintuitively, and could possibly be foolish. However, in the event the Mets are considering signing Lucroy or trading for McCutchen this winter, is there a benefit to acquiring them and learning now how they handle New York?  For instance, if the Mets have no interest in retaining, say, Lucas Duda, Jay Bruce, Curtis Granderson, and Asdrubal Cabrera, could they trade some of these guys for a collection of so-so Continue to Article

On Wednesday the Baltimore Orioles reinstated one of the top closers in the majors, Zach Britton, giving the pitching staff a major boost. Back in April, the 29-year-old was diagnosed with left forearm soreness that placed him on the 10-day disabled list Continue to Article

Each year, July 2 is the beginning of the period of time that major league organizations can sign international amateur free agents. It is an exciting time for many organizations that spend months, if not years, scouting players around the world in order to mine every last depth of the available talent pool. That is, unless you are the Orioles organization. To date, the Orioles have signed nobody on the international amateur market. Last year they signed five total, with the highest signing bonus given at $150,000. They spent a total of $260,000. The thrifty Rays spent $3,000,000 and they were under restrictions to spend money due to going over their spending pool limits in 2016. The Orioles Continue to Article

New York Yankees rookie sensation Aaron Judge and teammate Gary Sanchez announced Monday that they will participate in the Home Run Derby next week in Miami. The announcement was made via the Yankees' Twitter account after both players took time to consider their invitations, which were made last month. Judge leads the majors in home runs with 27. He also leads the American League in batting average (.327) and RBIs (62). Last month, Judge hit a 496-foot home run against the  Baltimore Orioles, the longest distance a home run has traveled since ESPN began tracking home runs in 2009. "I'm excited,'' he said Monday. "We've got a good group of guys going. Getting a chance to go up against Gary is Continue to Article
