CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Manager Terry Francona will miss his second straight game on Wednesday night when the Indians play the Padres at Progressive Field. Francona, admitted to Cleveland Clinic on Tuesday afternoon, was still at the Clinic on Wednesday. Bench coach Brad Mills will once again manage the team in Francona's absence. The Indians also announced Wednesday that outfielder Abraham Almonte was activated from the disabled list and first baseman Carlos Santana was placed on the paternity list. Almonte has been on the disabled list with a strained right biceps muscle since May 16. Cleveland Indians manager Terry Francona was not in the dugout for Tuesday's game against the San Diego Padres as he underwent heart tests. Francona missed the MLB game because he was undergoing tests at Cleveland Clinic to find a solution for the 58-year-old's heart condition. CLEVELAND – The Cleveland Indians will be sending 5 players to the 2017 All-Star game! That’s the first time the Tribe has had 5 All-Stars since 2004. The team tied with Washington, New York Yankees and the Astros for the most individual selections. Of course, the American League is being managed by Indians’ Terry Francona. He’s bringing his whole coaching staff with him. Jose Ramírez was selected as the third base starter for the game, the team’s first fan-voted starter since 2001.  This is his first All-Star game. For the second time this season, the Cleveland Indians slugged their way past Justin Verlander, sending the Detroit star to an early exit. Jose Ramirez homered from both sides of the plate , and Cleveland snapped Verlander's run of 331 consecutive games with at least one strikeout, chasing the right-hander in the fourth inning of an 11-8 win over the Tigers on Sunday. DETROIT (AP) - Nicholas Castellanos tripled to break a seventh-inning tie and the Detroit Tigers went on to beat the Cleveland Indians 7-4 in the first game of a doubleheader on Saturday. J.D. Martinez and Miguel Cabrera homered for Detroit. With the score tied at 4 in the seventh and Martinez on first, Castellanos hit his fifth triple of the season off the out-of-town scoreboard in right-center. Bryan Shaw (2-3) intentionally walked Victor Martinez, putting runners on the corners, but Mikie Mahtook flared an RBI single to left to make it 6-4.
