New York Mets
Jacob deGrom entered 2017 with a career ERA of 2.74, ranking him as the 3rd best pitcher in baseball since 2014. The Mets expected the usual quiet dominance from him, but instead he has been a roller coaster ride all season. Fresh off a dazzling three-start stretch, has he finally righted the ship? Prior to June 12th, deGrom had followed a solid, if unspectacular, start to his season with two of the worst games of his career -- an 8.0 inning stretch in which he allowed 18 hits and 15 earned runs, leaving him with a 4.75 ERA and a big question mark. Ever since, though, he has been nothing short of incredible, dropping his ERA a full run and resting a beleaguered bullpen by going deep into every Continue to Article

Seth Lugo had won six straight road starts heading into his Fourth of July matchup with the Washington Nationals yesterday. That streak was, “... tied for the longest stretch in team history with Tom Seaver (twice - September 20, 1968-May 21, 1969 and August 9-September 27, 1969) and Jerry Koosman (twice - April 11-June 4, 1968 and September 11, 1972-April 29, 1973),” as the Mets mentioned in their pregame notes. Lugo was (3-0) on the road this season before taking on the Nats, with a 3.38 ERA in 18 2⁄3 innings pitched outside of New York’s Citi Field after getting off to a late start to his 2017 campaign, and the Mets had won in 10 of his previous 11 starts going back to August 25, 2016, with Continue to Article

The Nationals are looking for a closer and are interested in Mets reliever Addison Reed, sources recently told Nick Cafardo of the Boston Globe. However, according to Cafardo, the Mets are not likely to deal Reed - or anyone else - to D.C. Ini 40 relief appearances for the Mets this season, during which he's filled in for Jeurys Familia at closer, Reed is 0-2 with 14 saves and a 2.59 ERA. Reed is due roughly $4-5 million the remainder of this season, after which he'll be a free agent. In addition to Reed, Bruce, Lucas Duda, Curtis Granderson, Asdrubal Cabrera, Jose Reyes, and Jerry Blevins, are also eligible to be free agents at the end of this season and likely to be the subject of trade rumors Continue to Article

After winning seven of eight games, the Mets have lost three in a row, including two games this week to the Nationals that dropped them to 11 losses back of the Nationals in the NL East.  The Mets are again seven games below .500, eight losses back of the final Wild Card spot and 7-21 against teams over .500. There are 79 games left in the season, 26 days until the July 31 non-waiver trade deadline and four games remaining until the three-day All Star break next week. What's Next The Mets will try to avoid being swept by the Nationals during the final game of a three-game series at Nationals Park tonight at 7 pm ET. Jacob deGrom (8-3, 3.55 ERA) will take the mound for the Mets. DeGrom is 4-0 Continue to Article

New York Mets
In his last five starts before this morning’s against the New York Mets, Joe Ross, who’s had an up-and-down campaign thus far, had allowed two earned runs or less in four of his outings. Over that stretch, the recently-turned 24-year-old sinker-balling right-hander put up a 3.03 ERA, eight walks (2.20 BB/9), 40 Ks (11.02 K/9) and a .266/.316/.435 line against in 32 2⁄3 innings pitched. “I’ve found a little bit of a groove I guess,” Ross told reporters after he went 6 2⁄3 vs the Chicago Cubs last week, giving up five hits and two earned runs. “Just feeling good the last couple starts... and just trying to build off each one,” Ross said. “I feel like every game I have a couple mistake pitches to Continue to Article
