OAKLAND, Calif. — He may not be an All-Star, but Jose Abreu is unquestionably in a better place than he was one year ago. The White Sox slugger said on Saturday morning one reason he’s rebounded this season is he’s focused too much on the present to spend time worrying about the past. A year removed from the worst stretch of his pro career, Abreu has rediscovered the form that made him the runaway winner for the 2014 American League Rookie of the Year award. He belted his 16th home run of the season on Tuesday as the White Sox fell to the Oakland A’s 7-6. Abreu, who finished 1-for-5 with three RBIs, is on pace to drive in 100 runs for a fourth straight season. “I don’t like to turn back the page, Continue to Article

OAKLAND, Calif. — It took him a little while to get going, but Carlos Rodon looked like an ace in the making on Monday night. Working with outstanding command of all three pitches, Rodon picked up steam after a second-inning hiccup and never slowed down in a 7-2 White Sox victory over the Oakland A’s. Rodon — who missed almost the entire first three months of the season with bursitis in his left shoulder — struck out 10 batters and walked three. The effort was a huge leap forward from Rodon’s effort five days earlier when he made his first start of the season and walked six batters in a loss to the New York Yankees. “How (Rodon) threw (Monday) was the way we thought we saw toward the end of the season last year, which was much more efficient, much more in command of all his pitches,” manager Rick Renteria said. OAKLAND, Calif. -- In what could be a preview of the near future for the White Sox, David Robertson is off three days to attend the birth of his second child. One of the team’s most sought after assets, the veteran closer was placed on the paternity list before Monday's 7-2 win over the Oakland A's and isn’t likely to rejoin until the White Sox reach Denver on Friday. For now, the White Sox coaching staff must determine how to survive for three games without Robertson, who has provided stability to the back end of the bullpen. But if all goes according to plan, the White Sox could be in search of a new closer sometime later this month when Robertson is dealt to the highest bidder. While the White Continue to Article

Carlos Rodon went through 26 starts in 2016 without striking out 10 or more batters in a start and then pulled off the feat in each of his last two starts to close the season. It didn't take that long in 2017 for Rodon to reach double-digit strikeouts. Rodon struck out 10 Oakland Athletics on Monday, giving up two runs in 6 1/3 innings. He struck out the side in the third inning and started the seventh with his 10th strikeout before getting into a jam and being pulled. Anthony Swarzak got out of the jam and kept the lead intact. Rodon's shoulder injury kept him out of action until he pitched against the Yankees on June 28. He only had two strikeouts, and walked six, in five innings in that loss. Continue to Article
