Chicago Cubs
CINCINNATI (AP) With the bases loaded, two outs and the Reds down a run, manager Bryan Price decided to let his rookie pitcher take some swings. Jackson Stephens delivered on the first one. The right-hander lasted five innings in his major league debut and drove in the go-ahead runs with a bases-loaded single on Saturday, leading Cincinnati to a 5-3 victory over the struggling Chicago Cubs. WASHINGTON — The trade-deadline priorities for Theo Epstein’s front office are pitching, pitching and more pitching. Manager Joe Maddon says the rotation will drive the engine for a team that has been stuck in neutral through 49 percent of the season. This isn’t trying to turn Miguel Montero into a martyr for the honest/foolish criticism of Jake Arrieta that got him designated for assignment. Chicago Cubs
It wasn’t a pretty Thursday afternoon for the Washington Nationals and its fans. Starting pitcher Joe Ross saw his solid outing go to waste when the bullpen (Blake Treinen} allowed the Chicago Cubs to score three runs in the ninth inning and leave Nationals Park with a 5-4 victory. In addition to that, shortstop Trea Turner, who racked up seven stolen bases during the four game series, broke his right wrist when he was hit by a pitch, which will lead to him spending time on the Disabled List. Turner’s injury was first reported by Washington Post writer Chelsea Janes: Janes later tweeted that Syracuse Chiefs shortstop Adrian Sanchez was taken out of the lineup during a game against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Continue to Article

The family that owns the Chicago Cubs has taken out a loan of more than $65 million on its 11 rooftop buildings, from a lender the team already knows well. The Ricketts family on May 17 borrowed more than $65 million from Wintrust Bank, according to Cook County property records and commercial real estate data and analytics firm CrediFi. The loan for the buildings overlooking Wrigley Field adds a new dimension to the relationship between the Cubs and Rosemont-based Wintrust Financial, which is the team's official banking partner. Wintrust's sponsorship deal includes a large Wintrust sign atop the video board in the left field bleachers. The Ricketts family's new loan comes amid its $850 million Continue to Article
