The first-place Milwaukee Brewers added a veteran bat Sunday when they claimed catcher Stephen Vogt off waivers from the Oakland Athletics, the team announced. Vogt, 32, has a career .251/.312/.409 slash line over six seasons with the A's and Tampa Bay Rays. He was an American League All-Star in 2015 and 2016 and a fan favorite in Oakland, but he became expendable this year when the A's decided to give 26-year-old Bruce Maxwell the majority of the team's at-bats at catcher. The A's designated Vogt for assignment on Thursday. He is signed to a one-year, $2.965 million contract this season. Vogt has played primarily at catcher in the big leagues, but he also logged some time at first base, designated Continue to Article

ST. LOUIS - Neither Dexter Fowler or Yadier Molina are starting tonight. After an incorrect lineup was initially posted in the clubhouse and a second change was made, Mike Matheny clarified the lineup for his St. Louis Cardinals. “Dex is making good strides,” said Matheny. “Feeling much better today and will be out here doing more activity and should be available later to us in the game and hopefully, ready to start tomorrow.” After scoring in the 10th inning, Fowler exited Wednesday’s game due to tightness in his left quad and did not play yesterday. Prior to Matheny’s comments, Fowler also shared that his leg was feeling better and plans to be back in centerfield tomorrow. “We shut him down Continue to Article

YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio (WKBN) – A judge temporarily halted the deportation of over 100 Iraqi Christians who are now being held at a private prison in Youngstown. The 114 Chaldean Iraqis were arrested in Detroit 11 days ago because they all have criminal records in the United States. They were brought to Youngstown and are currently being held at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center on the east side. On Thursday, a federal judge in Michigan stopped their deportation for 14 days while he decides if his court has jurisdiction to hear their plight. Justice Department officials said the case should be heard in immigration court and not in federal court. The detained immigrants fear torture and possible Continue to Article

ST. LOUIS - By Neel Kale, from Cardsblog.com Lance Lynn has been one of the few good stories to come out of the Cardinals this year. After undergoing Tommy John surgery caused him to miss all of 2016, he's had a resurgence in 2017. Lynn has been one of the most solid pitchers in the entire Cardinals rotation, and part of the reason the Cardinals are competing in the NL Central. However, as I discussed last week, this team is not properly built to contend deep in the postseason. The Cardinals are a team with a few pronounced strengths (pitching) and many very pronounced weaknesses (defense, bullpen, offense). It would definitely be be best to give up some pitching for some defensive, offensive, Continue to Article

The Brewers have already been full of surprises on their way to an unlikely romp to the top of the NL Central standings. Eric Thames has been the biggest surprise of all. After coming over from Korea on a dirt-cheap three-year deal, the man who looks Continue to Article
