Chicago Cubs
For some reason, the 2016 world champion Chicago Cubs felt compelled to drop by the White House on Wednesday to pose for glossy photos with Donald Trump. Actually there is one pretty obvious reason: Cubs Chairman Tom Ricketts, whose brother Todd turned down an offer to serve as deputy secretary of commerce and extended family dumped a cool million into the coffers of a pro-Trump super PAC (as well as an additional million to Trump's inaugural committee), organized the shindig. WASHINGTON, D.C.: Last night it was Chicago Cubs’ catcher Miguel Montero talking out of turn about how his pitcher Jake Arrieta’s slow times to home were behind the seven stolen bases against the Cubbies in a 6-1 loss, and it led to the veteran catcher getting DFA’d early on Wednesday afternoon. Wednesday night in Washington, D.C. in the third of four between Chicago’s defending World Series champs and the Nationals in the nation’s capital, 25-year-old, second-year catcher Wilson Contreras was caught on camera jawing at another player. Chicago Cubs third baseman Kris Bryant is helped off the field after rolling his right ankle on the third base bag. One year after everything seemed to go right for the Chicago Cubs, their 2017 campaign has been filled with many challenges and setbacks. Bryant made the play without incident, then took one ill-timed step, catching his right foot on the inside corner of the base. It seemed harmless, but it clearly wasn’t as Bryant struggled to put any weight on his right leg.
