New York Mets
It's the little things that kill a season, and the seventh inning last night felt like a microcosm of what is killing this team in 2017. I know, I know, it's the injuries too, but then it's the little things... For instance, Travis d'Arnaud tied last night's game with a home run in the top of the seventh inning. Neil Ramirez then entered in relief for the Mets and began the bottom of the inning by walking Miami's leadoff batter, J.T. Realmuto. JT Riddle then followed with a single to give the Marlins runners on first and third with no one out. In relief of Ramirez, Jerry Blevins was called on to face pinch hitter Ichiro Suzuki, who slapped a single on the ground to left field. Dee Gordon moved Continue to Article

Not too long ago some rumors popped up about Bryce Harper wanting to sign with the Cubs when he hits free agency following the 2018 season. Such rumors are sort of silly this far out — and they almost always tend to be non-predictive of where the player eventually goes — but they tend to get folks excited or concerned, depending on who they root for. With the Cubs in town to face the Nationals, Harper was asked about those rumors again. He wisely dismissed them, saying he had no idea where that stuff comes from. David Wright last appeared in a major league game on May 27, 2016. Now there is news that the captain hopes to be cleared by doctors to begin baseball activity within days. Still, the 34-year-old Wright clearly faces an uphill battle to return to the majors, much less be a meaningful contributor again. And Mets officials need to work under the assumption that Wright will be a nonfactor in 2018 and beyond. Officially, Wright has been sidelined this season with an impingement in his right shoulder. However, his medical history has a pair of far more significant issues. Wright underwent surgery on June 16, 2016, to repair a ruptured disk in his neck. That might not limit him once he returns. Former pitcher Anthony Young, who holds the major league record with 27 consecutive losses, died in Houston on Tuesday, the New York Mets announced.? He was 51. His death comes on the anniversary of his 24th consecutive loss, which broke the record, on June 27, 1993, against the St. Louis Cardinals. Former Mets pitcher Turk Wendell said in a statement that Young said earlier this year at the Mets' fantasy camp that he had been diagnosed with a brain tumor. "Anthony was a true gentleman," Wendell said. "At this year's fantasy camp, he told us he had a brain tumor. That was Anthony. He never ran away from anything." Former major leaguer Lenny Harris tweeted earlier Tuesday that his friend Young Continue to Article
