Cincinnati Reds
If Cincinnati Reds infielder Scooter Gennett is trying to pay tribute to the game’s recent great home run hitters, he’s well on his way. During the Reds game against the Washington Nationals on Sunday, Gennett hit a homer that looked more than a little familiar. It was the second inning, and Gennett had already hit an RBI single as part of the Reds five-run first inning. Continue to Article

Most people who follow the St. Louis Cardinals believe that Randal Grichuk is getting his last serious opportunity to prove he can be an everyday player over the long haul. In his first game back with St. Louis after nearly a month in the minor leagues, Grichuk went 2-for-5 with two runs and a 478-foot homer in the sixth inning of an 8-4 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. Grichuk figures to get a chance to follow that up Monday when the Cardinals host the Cincinnati Reds in a makeup game that ends a four-game homestand. Continue to Article

Milwaukee Brewers
The first-place Milwaukee Brewers added a veteran bat Sunday when they claimed catcher Stephen Vogt off waivers from the Oakland Athletics, the team announced. Vogt, 32, has a career .251/.312/.409 slash line over six seasons with the A's and Tampa Bay Rays. He was an American League All-Star in 2015 and 2016 and a fan favorite in Oakland, but he became expendable this year when the A's decided to give 26-year-old Bruce Maxwell the majority of the team's at-bats at catcher. The A's designated Vogt for assignment on Thursday. He is signed to a one-year, $2.965 million contract this season. Vogt has played primarily at catcher in the big leagues, but he also logged some time at first base, designated Continue to Article

Cincinnati Reds
One night after a hard-fought, come-from-behind, walk-off win over the Cincinnati Reds, the Washington Nationals won a laugher, taking the second game of three in Nationals Park by a score of 18-3 on Saturday afternoon. The NL East-leading Nats collected 19 hits and scored 18 runs in their second straight win over the Reds, with everyone pitching in. Trea Turner and Michael A. Taylor’s contributions stood out from the rest, with the Nationals’ 24-year-old shortstop going 5 for 5 on the day with a walk and four runs, and the 26-year-old outfielder going 4 for 5 with a double, two home runs, and four runs scored. Turner’s five-hit game and free pass took him from a .262/.297/.413 line on the year Continue to Article

ST. LOUIS - Neither Dexter Fowler or Yadier Molina are starting tonight. After an incorrect lineup was initially posted in the clubhouse and a second change was made, Mike Matheny clarified the lineup for his St. Louis Cardinals. “Dex is making good strides,” said Matheny. “Feeling much better today and will be out here doing more activity and should be available later to us in the game and hopefully, ready to start tomorrow.” After scoring in the 10th inning, Fowler exited Wednesday’s game due to tightness in his left quad and did not play yesterday. Prior to Matheny’s comments, Fowler also shared that his leg was feeling better and plans to be back in centerfield tomorrow. “We shut him down Continue to Article
