DETROIT (WXYZ) - The Detroit Tigers have released struggling closer Francisco "K-Rod" Rodriguez just one day after giving up a grand slam to the Seattle Mariners. With the move, the Tigers have brought up Bruce Rondon from AAA Toledo Mud Hens Rodriguez started the season as the Tigers closer but was demoted after many bad outings. This year, he has pitched 25.1 innings, giving up 31 hits, 23 runs and 22 earned runs.  He has also given up nine home runs after giving up just six home runs in 58.1 innings last season. ''That was unbelievable,'' said Moore, called up Wednesday from Triple-A Tacoma to replace struggling Yovani Gallardo in the rotation. Continue to Article

After five innings of offensive futility, Jarrod Dyson was just looking to get on base. Dyson's bunt single broke up Justin Verlander's bid for a perfect game in the sixth inning Wednesday night and sparked the Seattle Mariners to a 7-5 comeback win over the Detroit Tigers. Nelson Cruz had three RBIs and Mitch Haniger homered as Seattle overcame a 4-0 deficit with three runs in the sixth and four in the seventh to hand the Tigers their fifth consecutive defeat. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Ben Gamel belted a 93 mph fastball out to center for a solo home run. Gamel’s ball was hit to that space, but was close enough to where the right field bleachers ended that one fan decided to take a risk. This fan didn’t bring his glove to the game, however, so he had to improvise. Continue to Article
