Oakland Athletics
The Oakland Coliseum, where the Oakland Athletics play, has a bit of a seagull problem. A solution was needed, and the Athletics found one: a giant falcon kite, which would fly above the stadium and scare off those loud flappy birds. Continue to Article

Jose Canseco will suit to play baseball once again. Major League Baseball may not want former Oakland Athletics slugger Jose Canseco around, but the independent leagues will welcome him back with open arms. The former 40-40 man will suit up for three games with the club, when they take on the Vallejo Admirals from June 23 to June 25. Continue to Article

The Astros have agreed to a minor league contract with 20-year-old Cuban right-hander Elian Rodriguez that includes a $1.9 million signing bonus. The deal raises Houston's international signing bonus total to $10,757,500, well above its $2,197,000 signing bonus pool, and the Astros will incur a tax of $8,560,500. Houston said Rodriguez has a 92-97 mph fastball and two power breaking pitches. Continue to Article

It’s been 21 1/3 innings since the Sox bullpen last allowed an earned run, and they had even more work to do Wednesday night, 6 1/3 innings. Even when a shoulder injury forced Continue to Article

Oakland Athletics
Curt Young may have come from Saginaw, but the former Arthur Hill and Central Michigan University found a career in Oakland. But his Oakland days came to an end Thursday when, after 33 years with the organization, the Athletics fired Young as the team's pitching coach. Bullpen coach Scott Emerson will take over as the pitching coach for a team that owns a 4.83 earned run average. Oakland drafted Young out of CMU in the fourth round of the 1981 draft, and he made his debut with the Athletics in 1983. He was part of an Oakland team that won three straight American League titles from 1988 to 1990. He played from 1983 through 1993 for Oakland, Kansas City and New York Yankees, finishing with a 69-53 Continue to Article
