Jen Hidinger, spokesperson and one of the founding members of the Atlanta nonprofit The Giving Kitchen (TGK), got a surprise Monday from the Atlanta Braves Foundation. Each year, the Braves Foundation recognizes five Atlanta individuals or nonprofits as heroes for their contributions to the community. San Francisco Giants pitcher Hunter Strickland began serving a six-game suspension Monday for brawling with Bryce Harper after his appeal was denied by Major League Baseball. Strickland plunked Harper on the right hip with a 98 mph fastball, igniting an eighth-inning fight that ended with Strickland being dragged to the Giants dugout by several teammates. John McHale Jr., a special assistant to baseball Commissioner Rob Manfred, denied Strickland's appeal, which means the pitcher will miss all four games of a series set to begin Monday in Atlanta against the Braves, as well as the first two games of a weekend series in San Francisco against the New York Mets. ATLANTA (AP) - Brandon Phillips thought it was "epic" to get the Braves' game-winning hit for the second straight day. Having his dad in the stands on Father's Day added to the thrill. Phillips punched a ninth-inning single through a stacked infield to drive in Johan Camargo from third base and give Atlanta a 5-4 win over the Miami Marlins on Sunday. Phillips also delivered the decisive run-scoring single in the 10th that gave Atlanta an 8-7 victory over Miami on Saturday. "Yesterday was crazy but today was one of those epic things," Phillips said. "I never thought I'd have back-to-back walk-offs." Camargo hit a one-out infield single off Drew Steckenrider (0-1) and moved to third on Ender Inciarte's Continue to Article

San Francisco Giants
As the Giants sit mired in last place in the NL West, the flickering embers of their 2010–14 mini-dynasty dying out, they might want to consider drastic measures. The Giants own the worst offense in all of baseball this season. They also field the second Continue to Article

DENVER — Jarrett Parker was supposed to spend Sunday morning taking some hacks against Madison Bumgarner. Instead, the big lefty headed to Scottsdale to throw pitches on Saturday. Parker didn’t join Bumgarner, but he’ll soon make a trip of his own.  Parker’s rehab assignment starts Monday with the Sacramento River Cats. He has not played since suffering a fractured right clavicle on April 16, but he has been taking swings for several weeks and finally felt ready to get back into games.  Parker was hitting just .143 when he got hurt, but Bruce Bochy felt he was finally starting to find his swing in the at-bats leading up to the collision with the left field wall at AT&T Park. Left field belongs Continue to Article
