The Washington Nationals blew a 6-0 lead to drop the series opener with the Miami Marlins. The Washington Nationals opened up their series with the Miami Marlins by scoring six runs in the first three innings, but Tanner Roark and the bullpen blew the game and handed the home team an 8-7 win. The next inning, Anthony Rendon saw Harpers exit velocity and raised him a launch angle, crushing a moonshot into the heart of the art sculpture in center to put the Nats up 3-0. Continue to Article

During Sunday's series finale against the Nationals at Citi Field, Jacob deGrom did everything he could to get the Mets a win on a day that often felt like it might be the last relevant game of the season -- despite there being 95 left to go. For starters, by getting a victory, he helped the Mets avoid being totally embarrassed by losing four games to the Nationals at home during a vital stretch of the season. In his weekly spot on 106.7 the FAN in D.C.s Sports Junkies last Wednesday, GM Mike Rizzo assured the hosts and the listeners that the Nationals brass was not content with the current state of Washingtons bullpen, which has been a problem from the start this season. Wednesday was a dream come true for Drury's Nic Perkins. The Francis Howell product was picked by the Washington Nationals in the 28th round of the Major League Draft. While it was obviously a big day for the 6-4, 215 pound catcher, it was also a big day for his family. The Perkins last name is synonymous with the sport of baseball. Nic's dad, Tony Perkins, has been the coach at Francis Howell for the past 26 years and has brought the Vikings four state championships. Two of them while Nic was on the team. The Perkins last name has made it's mark at Murray State as well. Nic's brothers, Ryan and Justin, just finished up their freshmen seasons with the Racers. Ryan was named a freshman All-American.
