BALTIMORE — Carlos Martinez struck out eight over six sharp innings, and the St. Louis Cardinals hit a season-high five home runs in an 11-2 rout of the struggling Baltimore Orioles on Friday night. Rookie Paul DeJong homered, singled twice, scored three runs and had three RBI to help St. Louis snap a three-game skid. Matt Carpenter and Dexter Fowler connected in succession to cap a four-run sixth inning, Tommy Pham hit a two-run drive in the seventh and Jedd Gyorko added a solo shot in the ninth. Matt Davidsons bat is so hot that the White Sox still had plenty even after Avisail Garcias ejection on Thursday afternoon. Davidson homered for the fourth game in a row and also jump-started the game-winning rally as the White Sox downed the Baltimore Orioles 5-2 at Guaranteed Rate Field. After a 7-2 road trip through San Francisco, Oakland, and Los Angeles, the Washington Nationals returned home, and on what was originally scheduled to be an off day, beat the Baltimore Orioles last Thursday (June 8th) in a make-up game for the finale of the four-game set with their regional rivals. Four straight losses followed, however, with Texas sweeping a three-game set and Atlanta taking the series opener on Monday night, but the Nats avoided setting a new season-high for consecutive losses in Tuesday nights win over the Braves.
