MYRTLE BEACH, SC (WBTW) – Community members in Myrtle Beach took a moment to remember the 9 victims of the Emanuel AME church shooting in Charleston. Saturday marked the second year since the shooting. The Horry County Democratic Party held a vigil in memorial of the shooting victims, by the peace wall in Chapin Memorial Park. The organization also held a memorial in Conway at the same time. The vigil not only honored the Emanuel 9, but victims of all incidents of gun violence. Organizers said they will continue to push for stricter gun control legislation, especially after the shooting in Alexandria, Virginia on Wednesday in which a congressman was shot. “We want the Mother Emanuel Church to Continue to Article

CINCINNATI Everything is working for Alex Wood these days, leaving him among the Dodgers’ greats for the best start to a season. The left-hander remained unbeaten by pitching four-hit ball over eight innings on Friday night, leading Los Angeles to a 3-1 victory that extended its domination of the Cincinnati Reds. Wood (7-0) lost his shutout when Devin Mesoraco homered in the eighth. He’s the first Dodgers pitcher to get so deep into a season without a loss since 1985, when Orel Hershiser made his first 11 starts without a loss, according to STATS. “Very rarely does a pitcher have the command he’s had of three pitches over this period of time,” manager Dave Roberts said. “As a hitter, you know Continue to Article

An outcast for more than a quarter-century, Pete Rose appeared as a Fox Sports TV analyst -- on a set outside the stadium. Now Rose, 74, will remain officially on the outs for the foreseeable future, following Major League Baseball commissioner Rob Manfred's denial on Monday?of Rose's bid for reinstatement, 26 years after his lifetime ban based on evidence that he had gambled on the sport -- and on his own team -- as manager of the Cincinnati Reds. Manfred's ruling is the latest consequence of what even some supporters of the Hit King have characterized as Rose's consistent inability to pursue a path to redemption and return since the MLB investigation initiated by commissioner Peter Ueberroth documented his repeated violations of Rule 21. Cleveland relief ace Andrew Miller wore a shocked expression after giving up a tiebreaking home run to Los Angeles pinch-hitter Kike Hernandez in the eighth inning Wednesday night. Miller was still in a state of disbelief following the Dodgers' 6-4 win over the Indians. Hernandez, batting for Chase Utley, hit a 1-2 pitch that barely cleared the wall in right field.
