Wednesday was a dream come true for Drury's Nic Perkins. The Francis Howell product was picked by the Washington Nationals in the 28th round of the Major League Draft. While it was obviously a big day for the 6-4, 215 pound catcher, it was also a big day for his family. The Perkins last name is synonymous with the sport of baseball. Nic's dad, Tony Perkins, has been the coach at Francis Howell for the past 26 years and has brought the Vikings four state championships. Two of them while Nic was on the team. The Perkins last name has made it's mark at Murray State as well. Nic's brothers, Ryan and Justin, just finished up their freshmen seasons with the Racers. Ryan was named a freshman All-American. Tim Tebow will play designated hitter and bat eighth Sunday in what might be his final appearance as a minor-league baseball player in Charleston. Tebow, a 29-year-old rookie with the Columbia Fireflies, is 2 for 8 as the Fireflies and Charleston RiverDogs split the first two games of a three-game series. The Fireflies are due to return to Charleston for four games July 7-10 after the South Atlantic League All-Star break, which starts Monday. But reports say the Mets are contemplating promoting Tebow for the second half of the season, possibly to the St. Luice Mets in the Class A Florida State League. Washingtons Nationals continued to dominate the Mets with their sixth straight win in Citi Field in 2017, 7-4 final in Flushing, Queens. Stephen Strasburg had a 1-0 lead before he took the mound this afternoon in Citi Field and a 4-0 lead before he gave up one of the two runs he allowed in 5 13 innings on the mound in what ended up a 7-4 win for Washington. Things you should know about today's game... 1) Seth Lugo allowed four runs -- three earned -- on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts over 6 2/3 innings in his second start of the season. The right-hander became the third Mets starter to surrender a leadoff homer on the homestand. 2) Yoenis Cespedes beat out two infield singles, homered and finished 4-for-4 with three runs scored. Jay Bruce went 3-for-4 while Wilmer Flores plated New York's first run with a double-play groundout and lofted a sacrifice fly in the sixth.
