The Oakland Coliseum, where the Oakland Athletics play, has a bit of a seagull problem. A solution was needed, and the Athletics found one: a giant falcon kite, which would fly above the stadium and scare off those loud flappy birds. Continue to Article

Yankees catcher Gary Sanchez reached base safely five times on Thursday before having to leave the game early due to tightness in his groin. Sanchez went 3-for-3 with a double, two walks, two RBI, and a stolen base. His two-out double in the bottom of the seventh helped tie the game at 4, while his ninth inning single brought in Starlin Castro to tie the game at six and force extra innings. Sanchez stole second base in the top of the ninth, and was then forced to exit because of tightness in his abductor muscle. After the game, Joe Girardi said Sanchez is day-to-day. In the last week, Sanchez is batting .500 (12-for-24) with three HR, 12 RBI, three doubles, and eight runs scored. Chris Carelli, Continue to Article

OAKLAND, Calif. (CBSNewYork/AP) — Pitching coach Curt Young got fired earlier in the day. Oakland veteran Trevor Plouffe was designated for assignment to make way for prized prospect Matt Chapman. On a night that could have been filled with distractions and disappointment over the major changes, the Athletics played for 4 1/2 hours to finally beat the New York Yankees. Khris Davis blooped a two-run single in the 10th inning that glanced off second baseman Starlin Castro’s glove in shallow center and the A’s topped the Yankees in a seesaw 8-7 win Thursday night. “There were definitely a lot of things going on around here,” A’s starter Sonny Gray said. “At the same time, when it gets to 7 o’clock, Continue to Article

OAKLAND — Khris Davis stole the spotlight from baseball’s hottest slugger in his return to Northern California on Thursday night. The A’s outfielder clinched a dramatic 8-7 come-from-behind win over the New York Yankees at the Oakland Coliseum, driving in two runs with two outs in the 10th by dropping a bloop single into shallow centerfield off the tip of second baseman Starlin Castro’s glove. “I thought it had a chance,” said Davis, who extended his hitting streak to nine games with the walk-off hit. “But Castro was getting after it out there, so you never know. I saw it tip off his glove and then I saw my boys running after me.” The late-inning heroics spoiled the homecoming of Yankees rookie Continue to Article
