Curt Young may have come from Saginaw, but the former Arthur Hill and Central Michigan University found a career in Oakland. But his Oakland days came to an end Thursday when, after 33 years with the organization, the Athletics fired Young as the team's pitching coach. CC Sabathia departed in the fifth inning with a strained left hamstring and the Angels edged the Yankees, 3-2, in 11 innings on Tuesday night in Anaheim. The New York Yankees selected South Carolina RHP Clarke Schmidt with the No. 16 pick during Monday night's MLB Draft in Secaucus, New Jersey.
