Philadelphia Phillies and Atlanta Braves Thread

Team Tweets & News Articles
Atlanta Braves
After four days of playing like something other than the worst team in baseball, the Phillies reverted back to the losing ways on Wednesday night. It was their worst loss of the season, a 14-1 bruising sustained at the hands of the Atlanta Braves (see Instant Replay). Things were so bad that the Phillies didn't just send reliever Joely Rodriguez to the minors after the game, they bounced him off the 40-man roster by designating him for assignment. Philadelphia Phillies
ATLANTA  The news is good on pitcher Zach Eflin, iffy on outfielder Roman Quinn. Both players had an MRI examination on their achy elbows in Philadelphia on Tuesday. "There are no concerns with the ligament," Phillies assistant general manager Scott Proefrock said. Continue to Article

Atlanta Braves
ATLANTA -- Pete Mackanin is playing favorites again. "Well, my favorite players are (Aaron) Nola, (Pat) Neshek, (Howie) Kendrick and Odubel (Herrera)," the Phillies manager said after a 3-1 victory over the Atlanta Braves at SunTrust Park on Tuesday night (see Instant Replay). Who cares that the Phillies have beaten sub-.500 teams. They are the subbest of all .500 clubs with baseball's worst record at 21-35. They will take any win they can get. The Phillies were an obscene 6-22 in the month of May Continue to Article

Philadelphia Phillies
Earlier, Craig wrote about Phillies broadcaster Mike Schmidt criticizing outfielder Odubel Herrera, saying that the 2016 All-Star can’t be a team leader because of the “language barrier.” Understandably, Schmidt received criticism for his comment, made during an appearance on local sports radio. Schmidt called Herrera personally to apologize, MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki reports. It’s been made known to me that my answer on a radio interview this morning to the question, “can the Phillies build a team around Odubel Herrera” was disrespectful to Herrera and Latin players in general. Philadelphia Phillies
Philadelphia Phillies legend Mike Schmidt is an inner-circle Hall of Famer, a third baseman who smacked 548 homers, won three NL MVP awards and led his team to the 1980 World Series title. The 67-year-old Schmidt said on Tuesday that he wouldn’t build a team around current Phillies headliner Odubel Herrera because, before anything else, he isn’t a native English speaker.
