ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. Leury Garcias inexperience in center field is inevitably going to lead to some of the throwing mistakes he has made the past few games. White Sox manager Rick Renteria knows that occasionally Garcia will slip up. At the same time, Renteria is trying to find a balance between his expectations and the learning curve. If you had to choose a player who would enter baseball immortality thanks to an exceptional display of power, a 5'10" utilityman with 38 homers in parts of five seasons to his name—which for baseball purposes, is Scooter, by the way—likely wouldn't top your list. What's more, he put himself into the conversation for the greatest single-game offensive performance ever by collecting a single as well and driving in 10 runs in a 13-1 win over the Cardinals at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati. Twenty-seven-year-old Ryan Joseph Gennett (whose nickname origin story is adorable) spent the past three and a half seasons as the Brewers' starting second baseman, and even hit a career-high 14 homers last year. ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. — He wasn’t perfect, but Jose Quintana looked calm and collected on Tuesday night. And a confident Quintana is exactly what White Sox Land needed right now. Quintana was highly effective against the Tampa Bay Rays as he bounced back from the worst back-to-back outings of his career. The left-hander’s performance as well as a strong effort from the bullpen and solo home runs from Avisail Garcia and Todd Frazier led the White Sox to a 4-2 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in front of 14,590 at Tropicana Field. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the White Sox. “(Quintana) turned it up a notch,” manager Rick Renteria said. “He didn’t want to come out. He wanted to stay Continue to Article

Chicago White Sox
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- The cautious approach continues for injured White Sox pitchers Nate Jones and Zach Putnam. Neither reliever traveled on the team’s current three-city road trip and both haven’t thrown since the White Sox left town, manager Rick Renteria said Tuesday. Jones threw a bullpen session prior to the White Sox departure last Thursday and has since only received treatment, Renteria said. Though he hasn’t thrown since, Renteria said he wouldn’t describe Jones as having had a setback. Jones has been on the 10-day disabled list since May 4 with right elbow neuritis. “They’re healing and moving forward with the treatments they have,” Renteria said. “Not a setback. I think (Jones) was Continue to Article
