Earlier, Craig wrote about Phillies broadcaster Mike Schmidt criticizing outfielder Odubel Herrera, saying that the 2016 All-Star can’t be a team leader because of the “language barrier.” Understandably, Schmidt received criticism for his comment, made during an appearance on local sports radio. Schmidt called Herrera personally to apologize, MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki reports. Mike Schmidt is perhaps the greatest Phillie of all time. The Phillies, as you probably know, have been the worst team in baseball so far this season. But Schmidt works for the Phillies as a color analyst on weekend home games, so you’d expect him to refrain from trashing the team when he appeared on 94 WIP in Philadelphia this morning. He did not! Schmidt absolutely torched the only player on the Phillies signed to a contract of significant length.
