Mariners first baseman Danny Valencia entered Sunday’s game against the Rays with a hit in each of his previous seven plate appearances. Valencia made it to nine consecutive plate appearances with a hit, as he singled in his first two trips to the plate on Sunday. Valencia couldn’t make it to double-digits as he popped out in his next attempt. Continue to Article

The Mariners placed Segura on the 10-day disabled list on Friday, but recent comments from GM Jerry Dipoto revealed that the shortstop could miss up to 1-2 months during the recovery process. Prior to the injury, Segura was off to a hot start in his first season with the Mariners. Without Segura, the Mariners are expected to utilize Taylor Motter at short for the time being. If all goes well, Hernandez and Haniger, who each suffered injuries April 25 at Detroit, could head out next week on minor-league rehab assignments. That would be the final step before returning to active duty. Hernandez reported no day-after problems Wednesday following an encouraging bullpen workout Tuesday in Denver. He tested his recovery from bursitis in his shoulder by throwing his entire repertoire in a 30-pitch session. Plans call for Hernandez to face hitters while pitching Continue to Article

The history of pranks in baseball is long and proud. Sometimes the pranks are simple, like attaching a bunch of matches to the back of a pitcher’s cleats. Sano had a rubber rattlesnake with him in the dugout, and was showing to other teammates when pitching coach Neil Allen came by. Continue to Article
