BOSTON - There's something about Boston Red Sox pitchers and 20-strikeout games. There have been six major-league games with that many strikeouts and the Red Sox made the list for the third time, fanning that many Texas Rangers for a 6-2 victory Thursday night and a sweep of the three-game series. Five Boston pitchers combined on the 20 strikeouts with starter Drew Pomeranz getting 11 in six innings and closer Craig Kimbrel getting four in the ninth when the leadoff batter reached on a wild pitch strike three. Boston's Roger Clemens twice reached 20 strikeouts by himself. "His stuff is nasty. What he is doing right now I have never seen anything like that," Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes said of Continue to Article

Charlotte Knights right-handed pitcher Lucas Giolito threw a seven-inning no-hitter in the first game of Thursday’s doubleheader against the Syracuse Chiefs at BB&T Ballpark in uptown Charlotte. The Knights hit three home runs and beat the Chiefs by a score of 4-0. Giolito (2-5, 5.44 ERA) threw 50 of his 87 pitches for strikes and allowed just three walks over seven hitless innings. He struck out three batters and tossed the fourth no-hitter in Charlotte Knights franchise history – the first in BB&T BallPark history. Thursday’s seven-inning no-hitter by Giolito was the first in franchise history since July 25, 2013, when right-hander Andre Rienzo threw a seven-inning no-hitter in the opener of Continue to Article

Jose Abreu has made quite a turnaround from being a guy who was admittedly lost to bashing the ball like Abreu of old. From April 19th on, Abreu has hit at another level, reminiscent of the performances he put on throughout an eye-opening 2014 campaign in which he was the unanimous American League rookie of the year winner. Over that stretch, Abreu has slashed at an absurd .347/.404/.677 clip with nine doubles, one triple, 10 home runs and 22 RBIs in 136 plate appearances. Earlier this week, Abreu said the run is the product of trusting his tireless preparation. "I struggled in the first few weeks of the season but I kept working," Abreu said through an interpreter. "Now I'm at this point where Continue to Article
