Boston Red Sox
Sunday’s Say Hey, Baseball features a big international signing for the White Sox, a sweet play by Nolan Arenado, and the question of whether the Brewers have just been lucky. Listen, we know it’s tough to catch up on everything happening in the baseball world each morning. The Chicago White Sox are reportedly wrapping up a deal with top Cuban outfielder Luis Robert worth more than $25 million. Continue to Article

OAKLAND — Drew Pomeranz's short outing appeared to lead to some unhappiness with manager John Farrell Saturday afternoon against the A's. The lefty Pomeranz allowed just two runs, one earned, in four innings, but his day stopped there because of his inefficiency. He was pulled after 97 pitches, and Ben Taylor entered for the top of the fifth of what eventually became an 8-3 Red Sox' loss. The NESN telecast captured an animated exchange between Pomeranz and Farrell before the pitcher exited stage right toward the Red Sox clubhouse. Here it is via @BoSoxInjection on Twitter:  Relievers Taylor and Noe Ramirez allowed five runs, including three home runs, in the fifth as a 3-2 lead quickly became Continue to Article

OAKLAND — For a guy with such a funky delivery, Chris Sale brings his words directly and calmly. He showed an attitude Friday night publicly, a spokesman for a Red Sox team that doesn’t always seem to have an identifiable one. The idea that a 21-20 Red Sox team should be in a panic is a stretch after a 3-2 loss to the A's in 10 innings. But playing .500 baseball more than 40 games into the year is, at the least, a seesaw — and therefore a drag.  Few games come easy, even the ones when a possible Cy Young winner are pitching. Sale went eight innings and struck out at least 10 hitters for an eighth consecutive start, tying his own record from 2015. Pedro Martinez had eight inside one season as Continue to Article

OAKLAND -- Mark Canha was sure Ryon Healy had ended the game in the ninth only to be robbed by Jackie Bradley Jr. Canha left no doubt about it one inning later. Canha hit a leadoff homer in the 10th, one inning after Bradley's spectacular catch, and the Oakland Athletics beat the Boston Red Sox 3-2 on Friday night. "You never expect a guy to jump up and make an amazing play like that," Canha said. "But then when it happened I was like, `Oh yeah, that's Jackie Bradley out there.'" Then after Ryan Dull (2-2) pitched a scoreless top of the 10th, Canha capped a three-hit night with the drive to left field off Heath Hembree (0-2) that set off a raucous celebration for the A's. "It's crazy," he said. Continue to Article

OAKLAND — The calamities of Hector Velazquez and Kyle Kendrick return us to the big picture, which has been unchanged since spring training. The 2017 Red Sox season hinges on David Price. Depth and roster building are all concerns for the Red Sox. They need better back-end starters, which is the responsibility of the front office. But if you start ignoring the margins and the smaller-value choices, the concept is simple. It always has been.  The Sox lost David Ortiz, they added Chris Sale, and then they lost Price. Those are huge pieces, players worth four or five wins above replacement in a full season. Forget the Velazquezs of the world. Forget the trade market, where the Sox will have to be Continue to Article
