Los Angeles Angels
A milestone night for the New York Mets nearly turned into a miserable one. Jose Reyes had three instrumental hits, including the 2,000th of his career, and manager Terry Collins made just the right moves as the Mets held off the Los Angeles Angels 7-5 on Saturday. New York gave up three runs in a nervous ninth inning before substitute closer Addison Reed struck out pinch-hitter Danny Espinosa on a full-count fastball with the bases loaded for his sixth save. Mets' assistant general manager John Ricco said 3B David Wright has been shut down from his throwing program, according to Abbey Mastracco of NJ.com. The extent of Wright's rehabilitation at this point is limited to working with the team's physical therapists in New York, according to Ricco, and there is no timetable for his return. Rivera and Jay Bruce delivered sacrifice flies. 3) Zack Wheeler had little trouble with the Angels through five scoreless innings, surrendering three singles and three walks with five strikeouts. Los Angeles Angels
Looking to reinforce an injury-ravaged pitching staff, the Los Angeles Angels signed Doug Fister for the remainder of the season on Saturday. Fister will report to extended spring training in Arizona to begin workouts. ''We've seen Doug pitch for a long time and hopefully his stuff will be at a level that we saw when he was successful,'' Angels manager Mike Scioscia said before Saturday night's game against the New York Mets.
